Dallisgrass grows during the spring and summer. It will go dormant in the winter only to re-sprout the following spring. It grows in full sun and successfully invades all turf grasses. Dallisgrass grows in large clumps, with wide, light green leaves and stiff stems radiating from the center of the clump like spokes on a wheel and it produces seed heads that can be more than two feet high. In mowed lawns its leaves and stems lay flat against the ground and has a very similar appearance to crabgrass.
